What is Building Brighter Futures?

Building Brighter Futures is a three-year programme for 10-18 year olds with cystic fibrosis, funded by BBC Children in Need. The programme will include talks, Q&As and workshops to give you practical skills to manage your CF alongside other interests. We hope to cover a broad range of topics from mental health and isolation, to coding, blogging and vlogging. Hear from Digital Youth Outreach Officer Bahar Mustafa to find out a little bit more about her role in the Building Brighter Futures Programme.

What's coming up?

Learning to code

Coding is a valuable skill to have and allows you to be creative and innovative. We've teamed up with some expert coders who will be delivering online workshops over six weeks to young members of the CF community. You'll be using Google Hangouts to connect with one another, while our coders guide you using free programming software, Scratch. Each session you will develop a new skill and learn to build a mini game. You'll be given the opportunity to share your work with one another and work towards a final project. All the software is open source and freely available online, which means you can access it whenever you want to keep practicing, learning, and building.

#LifeHacks (ages 13-18)

We have an exciting series of bespoke workshops that we will be running over six-weeks for young people. They will include tips on stress busting during revision, help with budgeting and finance, and career support for those of you who are starting to think about work, college or university. We will also be offering wellbeing support – watch this space for more details coming soon!

This workshop will be running once weekly over six weeks in May-June 2020.

Games Night (ages 12-25)

  • Free
  • Cross platform
  • Suitable for ages 12-25

Every two months we challenge gamers with CF to bring their A-game. Alternating between X-Box and Playstation, we try to play cross-platform games where we can so everyone can get involved. Don’t have a console but want to hang out? We stream the whole thing on Twitch and have a chat room going as well. It’s a no-pressure opportunity to talk to others who have CF about anything (though mostly we talk about pizza toppings and upcoming game releases).

Follow @CFTrustYouth on your console or Twitch to get involved.

Twitter plug: Want to stay up-to-date with everything we’re doing for young people at the Trust? Follow @CFTrustYouth on twitter for the latest.
