UK statistics on COVID-19 in people with CF
The numbers in the UK are too low to draw conclusions about risk factors or outcomes associated with COVID-19 in cystic fibrosis. We are collaborating globally to learn as much as possible, as quickly as possible.
Among the 28 people with CF reported to the UK CF Registry as having COVID-19, 27 recovered from the infection. Sadly one adult with CF has died of complications related to COVID-19. To protect confidentiality, and out of respect for the family at this very difficult time, we are not releasing any further information about this person.
The cases of COVID-19 in people with CF reported to the UK CF Registry are as follows:
|Number of cases
| Age range
| FEV1% predicted range
| % with no symptoms when tested
| Number recovered from COVID-19
|Number receiving treatment for ongoing infection
| Number of COVID-19 related deaths
The UK CF Medical Association have released the following statement:
"Data collected by the CF Trust Registry suggests that COVID-19 infection causes a similar range of problems in people with CF to that seen in the rest of the population. Those with more advanced disease are at greater risk of severe complications in the same way that non-CF individuals who have other co-morbidities are also at greater risk.
"It has just been reported to us that an adult with CF has died of complications related to COVID-19 infection. Our thoughts are with their friends and relatives. This sad news underlines the importance of the shielding measures that are currently in place to try and prevent as many people with CF as possible from getting COVID-19 infection. Continue doing what you can to stay safe, keep up with all of your regular treatments and contact your CF team straight away if you feel unwell."

Global study on COVID-19 and CF
A global collaboration has published early results of COVID-19 cases in people with CF from around the world. The data suggests encouraging health outcomes for people with CF who have had COVID-19. You can read more about the results and access the report in our news story.
